I went to St. Elmo just for the experience. If I were to pay out of my own pocket I probably would think twice. I actually had work to do in the hotel that only night I stayed but I went anyway to sit at the bar and had dinner. The patrons around me were all out of towners like myself. It was only a 10 minute drive from the hotel. I had shrimp cocktail and the ribeye with navy bean soup. Naturally they were very good, and also pricy. The restuarant was packed to the gill, probably like that every night. It is sort of a tourist must visit.
I don't necessary crave for hot food but my tolerance for spicy stuff is pretty high being trained since childhood. So the shrimp cocktail with the horse radish sauce is just average for me. If you see me eat sashimi (Japanese raw fish) you will likely be amazed. I eat my raw fish coated with thick paste of the green stuff (wasabi) and soy sauce. The wasabi must be mixed with the right amount of soy sauce to the consitency of guacamole which means it will stand with very little slump. That's the only way I take it. Every bite of the raw stuff is usually accompanied by tears running out of my eyes, especialy with steaming white rice. Incidentally the horse radish shares a similar burn rating and taste as wasabi which I like and can take. But my tolerance to the hot pepper type of spice is quite low.
Flying into Indianapolis I did find the speedway on the air. That's about it. Didn't have time.
