We have two Vista machines (Business Premium) here for testing applications, and I gotta say I have no complaints either. I think the interface works as intended, applications largely work as intended (we have a couple goofy ones), and the hardware support seems reasonably complete. The OS is plenty fast running on $500 Dell computers - they're Dimension E521 with an Athlon XP 4600+, 1g RAM, integrated nVidia video (*amazing* what $500 buys you today). It's not as fast as XP on the same machine, but not slower that you notice, either. There are a few things I'd change about the interface, but I personally like it better than I liked the native XP interface when it came out - I still use "Windows Classic" on all five of my home XP machines because a) it's what I'm used to, and b) XP's default theme isn't an improvement. I think the Aero theme at least keeps Vista competitive with the look & feel of OSX, which in pretty much every way makes XP look pathetic.
In the end, I had exceedingly low expectations of Vista, so I'd say at this point I'm not disappointed, and possibly even a little impressed. I have zero intention of using it at home because I can't honestly find anything about it I like better functionally to justify the cost & hassle... I'd say it's a lateral move. I'm sure I'll stick with XP until there is a reason not to, like no more hardware & software support (just as happened with Win2k).
