I grew up there. As you have observed, it truly is a dynamic and vibrant city. There is no city in the US like it, the closest would be NYC.

As in most Asian cities, the super luxury cars and exotic cars are more for show and status. Yes, the Peninsular has a fleet of RR, you can ride in them for a price. In fact, the Peninsular has been one of biggest RR customers for years. The license plate on that RR in your picture costs a lot more than the fleet of cars that you and I own and it's an annual fee 8-). However, it's a "4", not too good in Cantonese but it's one of earliest plate number so by itself is worth quite a bit. I would not be surprised if it's as much as the car itself.

I know the non-stop Continental flights from EWR to HKG very well. I take CO98/99 more than enough times in a year but the food is barely edible, even for Business First but sure can't beat the flight time and Continental knows it too.
