I use a mulching mower to get rid of all the grass clippings from mowing, but there is still the occassional organic debris that needs to be disposed of. This time the grass clippings were the result of edging my drive and sidewalks. Since I have a small subdivision sized lot compost piles are not a good option.
All of my yard debris goes to our Township compost center which converts it into the richest black dirt you can imagine. All residents can receive some of this compost for free (maybe 3 yards at a time?) and pay a nominal fee for additional.
My need for a labeled "Yard Waste" container is so the correct refuse truck picks it up. We have a train of trucks through our neighborhood every garbage day; regular household waste, re-cycle waste (glass, metal, newspaper, and cardboard) every other week, yard waste (April thru November only), the chipper truck to grind up limbs too large to be part of yard waste (becomes free mulch for Township residents), and the "White Goods" truck which picks up appliances for proper disposal/recycle (residents need to call for this truck to arrive).
