The gravity option sounds better though a second tank for that price sounds too good to be true.
I have a pump in the basement and have not had problems with the pump. It was originally under the floor, but the steel tank had corroded and we replaced it with a plastic tank on the floor. I installed an alarm, which also turns off my water pump. With a full pressure tank it may not prevent a flood (with a user who does not hear alarm) but it would minimize the damage. I do not know how old the pump is, I didn't look at it very closely when moving it to the new tank. The only problem I had was with the float for my alarm. One day the alarm went off, float decided to be a short for some reason, even though it only has 12V through it at 40ma. I replaced it with a mercury switch since a false alarm was not popular.
Incidentally, the solenoid to turn off the pump is the shift interlock solenoid from my former 96 CS auto (now CSE 5 speed). Mounted the assembly over the switch and when triggered it has enough travel to move the switch to off.
