Anything one can do about crappy laptop batteries? Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Fri, 11 May 2007 21:58:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have 2.5 year old Gateway laptop that is always on, fairly heavy use. When I first purchased it, I bought a second, modular battery that fits in the DVD drive slot. Back then, I got about 6 hours of battery time with both batteries in, maybe 4ish with just the main battery.
Fast forward to today. With both batteries I'm lucky to get 20 minutes. The computer is always plugged in when in use because of that. Occasionally I'll unplug it and let 'em die, but it never does anything. I ran the "battery recalibration" thing and it did nothing.
I'm a little pissed because my friends at school who bought the cheapie Dells from the university bookstore still get over 2 hours on the one crappy Dell battery. I paid lots more for a supposedly better computer, and this is what I get.
Even though I'm still covered under the "total protection plan", batteries aren't covered. I'm not too thrilled about the idea of coughing up about $200 for two new batteries.
Any brilliant ideas? Thanks!!
