I have a similar problem at home - the Mac will not connect to the router with 802.11 G or Draft N with any encryption (WPA *or* WEP) but is fine when I force the router to 802.11b only. Since the Mac is currently the only wireless device I've just left my router in 802.11b only.
FWIW, I spent many years (five) working for an ISP, and we had nothing but problems connecting Macs to Linksys, D-link, Belkin, Microsoft, Siemens, 2wire, and every other brand of wireless access point you can imagine - believe me, we tried them all. Some Macs work, some don't and I couldn't find any rhyme or reason to it. In the end, we told our customers the same thing Best Buy does - we don't support Macs on our wireless. Customers who had Macs either had to source their own Airport access point, or use a Linksys wireless to ethernet bridge, taking the Apple wireless bit entirely out of the question.
