Agree completely.

AWD is about 90% marketing BS that targets inept drivers. Yes, it is better than FWD or RWD in some conditions, and it is better at putting down a lot of power, but for everyday, real-world driving all it does is use more gas while adding mechanical complexity.

Pay attention, use four snow tires in winter and tires that are good in the wet in summer, and don't go too fast for conditions and you'll almost always get where you need to go.

I just saw a review of the new Suby B9 Tribeca, with more power and an improved AWD system. It goes good, but gets less mileage on the highway than my wife's 9-5 wagon does in local driving.

Does Saab need AWD? Only to compete in the marketplace. Which is unfortunate. Not all technology is really essential.
