Last time I drove into Canada, the Canadian customs agent peered into the car, saw the radar detector and reminded me they were illegal in her country.
I was a good boy (somewhat uncharacteristic) kept it turned off for my 3 days in Quebec and Ontario.

A Canadian friend later told me that the Mounties who suspect you have a detector can pull you over and really ransack your car to find it. Then they take it away and fine you bigtime.

Maybe Virginia is really part of Canada.
