This happened to me last winter Posted by Adam [Email] (#344) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Adam) on Wed, 1 Aug 2007 07:15:14 In Reply to: piece of metal went through turbo?????, Rob [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 31 Jul 2007 18:21:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I noticed a ratteling for a while, but neglected to get it checked. Then I noticed a lack of power, so broght the car in. Maybe its this sensor, maybe its that sensor... I replaced some sensors, but still no go, so the guys at the shop opened it up and said a piece from the wastegate (or something else, not positive) got sucked through the turbine, and destroyed it.
Drew is right about getting the debris out, even though, I might have something lodged in the catalytic converter. Mechanic said it would be risky to try and fish it out, as the cat is very fragile, so we both agreed to leave it be! So far, 7 months later, I haven't had any trouble. But of course, I'm still paying for that new turbo!
It sucks, but it happens.
My mechanic said he had never seen this happen before either.
