fortunately so did a guy at an electronics chain store that will remain nameless, but rhymes with "Dies"...
I was tooling around to see what was new and what I might need to play with... and the clerk (not sales person, not technical *anything*) had the guy convinced that if he purchased this cable, and that external adapter, and than cable, and yes another, AND yet another cable... he could get water from wine, or his tesla tube would make free electricity, and get firewire out of usb, all with cables no less. Now before you jump on me, yes there may be a USB 2.0 to Firewire adapter, but why would drive a firehose with a garden hose... http://www.cwol.com/firewire/firewire-vs-usb.htm
I could not stand it anymore and butted in (really? ME? lol) and asked the polite question, what are you trying to do? After listening to what he wanted to do, what he had now, and that was running XP, I told him he really needed the PC card (which he did have room for, just trying to avoid opening the box) and that in fact he could get the multiple firewire and usb 2.0 ports too, he just needed someone to tell him the TRUTH and confirm that the best way was a little more work to geta LOT better result.
But did tell him the cable cluster they were trying to build was like trying to change from DC voltage to AC voltage with cables... THAT he understood, the "clerk" beat a hasty retreat...
Oh, sorry mac guys, this was a PC...
