In my opinion, no matter what is done to the 9-7, it is still a Chevy truck, albeit with a better suspension. It's a nice truck, but I don't think Saab has to have something for every niche in the market. I'd rather an AWD wagon than a truck any day.
Provided it was launched with appropriate marketing support and hoop-la, an AWD Saab with 300 to 400 hp in sedan & wagon flavors would suddenly put Saab on the map again and would bring all kinds of interest to the marque.
GM and Saab could do this... they know how to make cars go. It just requires some vision and some stones. There is no reason Saab can't compete on most levels with BMW and on any level with Audi. They just have to raise the bar a little on interiors and performance.
