Ah yes...this reminds me of when.... ....in 1967 I as out enjoying my first Saab, a new 1967 3 cyliner 2 stroke Model 96.
I got stuck behind a really slow guy doing about 20 MPH in a 35MPH zone. So I did the practical thing......I crossed the double yellow line on a curve and passed him with a burst of speed. The problem was that in order to complete the passing manuever I had to pass the cop standing in the middle of the road by continuing on the wrong side of the double yellow line. And yes....he did wave me over.
My thoughts were that I was probably going to jail. Taking off seemed to be a dubious proposition at best even though he didn't have a Saab (I forgot to say that there was some snow on the road.) The thought intrigued me though since this was 1967 and Saab's front wheel drive was unique and a big advantage. I also realized that if he started shooting it could go badly; Saab's weren't bullet-proof.
I pulled over expecting the worst, and praying for something less, like community. We chatted; he let me go after making sure that I understood that he really caught me with my pants down....and that I should not cross double yellow lines. Although he was using radar he and his partner concluded that I didn't get up enough speed to warrant a speeding ticket.
To this day I don't cross double yellow lines....deliberately.
