2.5" Hard Drives + Enclosures + Car Stereos Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] (#32) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Justin VanAbrahams) on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 16:31:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have this weird scenario that I can't figure out - maybe someone here can?
Part one: Toshiba 40gb ATA hard drive in a "Moving Star" enclosure plugs in and works fine with both of my USB-capable head units. The Toshiba lists its current draw as 0.7a
Part two: The same Toshiba drive in three other brands of enclosures will not spin up when connected to either of my USB-capable head units.
Part three: A Fujitsu 80gb ATA drive in the aforementioned "Moving Star" enclosure will not spin up, but WILL spin up in one of the other three enclosures that didn't work with the Toshiba drive. The Fujitsu drive lists its current draw as 0.6a.
Part four: A Seagate 100gb ATA drive in ANY of the four enclosures will not work. The Seagate lists its current draw as 0.4a.
What I don't understand is why the Toshiba and Fujitsu drives will work in two different enclosures, but not the same enclosure, and why the Seagate drive - which has the lowest current draw (and the slowest rotational speed, FWIW) - doesn't work at all. And, why two brands of enclosure will never work, but two brands work with a specific drive.
Anyone have any ideas what might be going on here? Just randomness?
