The whole crossover thing is bull cookies to me. C'mon, they are tall wagons with AWD. There isn't a good-looking one in the bunch. They have small greenhouses and usually lousy outwards visibility. It's very hard to design something that is brick-shaped and have it look unique, so they are interchangeable for general looks.
I like the utility aspect, but not the height. The 9-4 looks like it's about 5'8" high. The styling is OK but kinda bland. Not something I'd be likely to buy.
What would work for me is a 9-5 SportWagon that's 4 inches taller and longer (most of it greenhouse), a couple inches wider, a bio-power or turbo-diesel engine, and a bit more roll stiffness. Bring the wheels out to the edges of the car, too.
