That's what it took from me to get them to do anything.
Do a search for my name - I think on this BBS. I had a problem five-ish years ago when Ameriprise (accidentally) reported my pristine Alfa 164Q as totalled to the DMV. Imagine my surprise when I tried to renew my registration and found out the car had been junked!
It took 18 months for Ameriprise to fix the issue with the DMV, during which time I could not renew my registration nor drive the car. When it was all over, they apologized for the inconvenience and considered the matter closed.
I demanded they reimburse me for the 18mos worth of insurance I'd paid, the four flat tires, the storage costs, and the difference in the car's value as figured by their choice of guides. They immediately agreed to refund 50% of the insurance and told me they were not liable for any of the other costs. I disagreed, and went round and round with four different people, three of which would not return my calls and were never at their desks. The fourth argued a lot and insisted it was not their fault in any way that my car had been accidentally reported totalled - by them.
Eventually, I sent a letter to the state insurance commissioner asking for some assistance in the matter, and after Ameriprise received THEIR letter of inquiry, I got a call from some supervisor. It took two more days, but they issued me a check without any real additional complaint. As soon as it was in my hand, I canceled my policy and both of my AmEx cards.
Jerks.
I had similar bad luck with them a year before when some idiot in a full size van side-swiped my Volvo 745T on a freeway onramp and then fled. It took Ameriprise three months to process the claim and reimburse me for repairs. Not because I was arguing, but simply because I couldn't get my adjuster to do anything without prodding.
