What, you don't remember the 1968 Special Edition 95-T? Little known fact that Saab produced a special edition 95 (wagon) with a turbo-charged version of the 750 cc two-stroke engine. The existing 850cc was deemed powerful enough. It was distinguished by special features like a chrome "Turbo" on the back, and the little windowshade that could block the grill was now electrically activated.
The turbo added an astounding 6 hp to the existing 50 hp engine, but given the already peaky nature of a two-stroke, turbocharging narrowed the effective power band to between 5200 and 5500 rpm. Car reviews of the day (OK, review, and it was by a sixth-grader for a school paper) commented on the drivability issues.
Never sold in the US because of emission regulations, and because the certification authorities couldn't stop laughing, the 95T enjoyed considerable sales success in Sweden, and one small town in Lithuania. Counting the first production car shown at the Gothenberg Car and Lukevisk Expo of 1968, the 12 month production run came to just over two cars.
Car #1 was destroyed when a randy moose tried to mate with it, drawn by the sparkly chrome "Turbo." That was the first, but not the last time that word would spark magic. Car #2 went missing, but is rumored to be in a Lithuanian barn somewhere, waiting for one lucky collector. Car #3 consisted only of an intake manifold, and shows up periodically on eBay.
Know your Saab History, Folks!
