Classic Saab ipod integration--any geeks here?

In my quest to integrate my ipod seamlessly into the stock Clarion setup in my classic 900, I came across a website where someone has done it for the VW (link below). They call it a VWCDPIC. (Lots of good information when searching that under google.)
The hurdle to overcome is that the Clarion setup uses firmware that the components use (via the C-Bus network) to talk to one another. Without the firmware encoding the Head Unit won't recognise any other component on the system. These guys have created an interface with a PIC microprocessor that they put inline between the optional CD changer connection and an ipod. It charges the ipod and the CD/EQ unit can be used to switch between playlists just like CDs. Since it's a direct line, sound quality is at it's best. Unfortunately, they don't sell the pre-programmed units anymore, just the PIC programmer and protoboard kit. They have a developers forum where people have posted free firmware code and electrical schematics. Unfortunately, I'm not an electrical engineer or a programmer and can't figure this out more than in an elementary level.
Any nerds or geeks out there? (I mean that in a good way) ;^D
