Our 16 year old daughter took her drivers test yesterday in my '01 SE 5 spd. and passed but not without trauma. The guy kind of busted her chops right up to where they were parked at the end. As I was walking up to the car, myself on pins and needles, my daughter was in tears. The guy had just been going over the details and it was all negative. He asked her why she was crying and she said she was "just disappointed". The guy handed her her temporary license and said congratulations. Granted, there was a lot of pressure but she felt like he was taking some kind of joy in breaking her down. She's not much of a crier either. The girl cried for another 20 minutes after I was riding with her. She had to pull over and get herself together. She said it was the weirdest thing that has ever happened to her.
Different subject- That road test took about 8-10 minutes!! Prior to that she took a 5 hour class. That's it!! I have been feeding her the teen driving articles from AutoWeek that can be downloaded (it looks like you have to register but it's worth it)at the address below. I highly recommend these award winning articles. They don't paint a very good picture of our system in the US compared to Europe but do give our kids something to think about..
