My sister and her husband are visiting the US in September from Scotland. They will be flying in to Boston and are looking to do maybe a few days to a week of cycling somewhere in New England. They will have to rent bikes and would prefer to go on their own, rather than as part of a tour. They would also prefer not to have to rent a car, so being able to get somewhere using public transportation would be a plus.

They will eventually make their way to Montreal so maybe Vermont makes sense?

I know there are a lot of NE Saabnetters, so I was hoping to get some good suggestions for them.
