FYI, I've used and have been happy with TaxCut for at least the last ten years. I am very disappointed with the 2007 Federal + State edition.
1. It's $39.95 up from $29.95 last year. So, OK inflation.
2. It can only be loaded/backed-up on 2 computers. For the last 10 years, I have copied the entire TC directory to a CD-ROM for backup and if need be copied the data to another PC to backup the tax return. Not this year! If you want to run it on another PC, you have to load THEIR disk, read the FAQs and following the link back to THEIR site, supply information that you received in the email confirmation. What a PITA. Now I have 5 PCs in the house, and I can only run it on 2 of them. If the hard drives on both PCs fail, that's it - another $39.95 to TaxCut, because backing it up to a CD-ROM/DVD doesn't work (you can copy it but not run it on another PC). And, copying the TaxCut cookies to the destination PC doesn't work either.
3. The final straw is that I have ~$5000 in education credits (Masters - Computer Science at DePaul) that can't be filed until 2/11/08. TaxCut still needs to be updated for that.
Oh well, I guess I can wait for the electronic returns to be processed, then ask for a refund. After all, they have a 100% guarantee just like L.L. Bean.... Ron
