Greetings from Whitehorse, Yukon Territories, where I and a bunch of other nutjobs are preparing for Day 4 of the Alcan 5000 winter rally (map here: http://www.alcan5000.com/pdf/08AlcanRt4.pdf), a time-speed-distance competition that spans nearly 5000 miles and travels from Washington state to a few hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle in Canada. In nine days. This is billed as the longest, coldest rally in the world (even though the weather this week is mild). (http://www.alcan5000.com)
We're holding strong in sixth place overall, as we compete in a 1985 Saab 900 Turbo with 260,000 miles on it that was originally purchased for $250. It's the oldest car entered, with the highest miles, and is the sole two wheel drive car.
Team/updated information at http://www.teamd.org/activities/alcan2008/, which has a link to an active blog, and to other teams' blogs.
By the way, when we pulled into the Whitehorse hotel parking lot last night after driving nearly 800 miles, there was a really nice 82-83-ish rose quartz 900S 4-door; anyone here know this car? It's the only Saab we've seen since leaving Washington a few days ago, and cool to see one so similar to our own!
