Here are a few things that affect dialup speed:
1. If you are more than 3 cable miles from the telco central office, your speed may be slower.
2. If your telco uses SLC96 (subscriber line carrier), which puts many analog phone lines on a digital circuit, your speed may be slower.
3. If your connection to the ISP from the telco is not through a digital trunk circuit, your connection may be slower.
4. If you have 2 phone lines in your house, they may be on the same cable pair to the central office. This will also slow down the connection.
5. Any combination of the above items will definately slow down the connection.
Aren't there any wireless internet service providers in your area? I have wireless service on my boat during the boating season, and I get 300 to 350-kbps download speed, which is still slow to me. Last year it cost $150 for 7 months of unlimited service... Ron
