I haven't run into the paint peeling off mine yet, but I did need to remove them after the guy who replaced my windshield put them on so at the bottom they were resting on top of the plastic trim and at the top position the driver side was about 8 inches from the edge of the glass. Anyway... They're kind of of huge pain in the a$$ to get off. When the windshield guy did it I watched from inside and he undid the nut, and banged repeatedly real hard on the middle of the arm while pulling up around the nut. I tried that but it's very awkward with the hood there- I could only lift my hand about 6" to bang so I couldn't get enough force. I looked like an idiot pulling and tugging on the darn thing and got nowhere. I finally got my dad to help out and he managed to get it off. You just have to pull real hard straight up. Unfortunately you end up bashing your arms into the hood (I learned some new words from dad) when it releases quickly. Good luck!
PS- I've seen two more of those S badges around here, maybe we're starting something?
