In a previous thread, someone asked about the new Parrot MK6100 Hands Free Bluetooth car kit with A2DP with an iPod bluetooth adapter. I had the CK3100 in my Aero and ended up getting the MK6100, and a motorola BT adapter for my iPod. I put the CK3100 in my wife's Arc wagon. This worked great, quality was fine and an overall great solution. I just didn't like the fact that I had to control the iPod while driving. So when we go on road trips, we'll take the iPod with the BT adapter and the passenger will control it.

I then noticed that Granite Embedded was taking orders again for the AudioTroll so I went ahead and ordered that which actually arrived in under a week. I was very psyched! Long story short, I ended up putting the CK3100 back into my Aero and then installed the AudioTroll. This is an excellent piece of hardware. Installation could not have been easier (20 minutes said and done initially). After testing it out, I found a few bugs that were pretty annoying, mainly background noises. I have a 5th gen 80GB iPod, made my playlists and was good to go. Right when I turned it on, everything connected up and I had music right away. 15 seconds into that, I had this horrid screeching hiss that was constant. This was driving me crazy. I ended up picking up the iPod which was just sitting on the passenger seat (didn't decide where I finally wanted to mount it), and the noise stopped. Put it back down, 15 seconds later the noise came right back again...picked up the iPod and it stopped. I thought I had a bad cable at first...so the noise came back, and I touched the cable where it connects but it didn't make a difference. Picked up the iPod and it stopped again. Mind you, the whole time the iPod was in the original case it came with so I couldn't see the screen. Welp, turns out the noise was from the backlight. Whenever I picked up the iPod, I must've touched the click wheel which then turned the backlight on. I had it set to go off in 15 seconds, so whenever it went out, the noise came back. I changed that to be on 100% of the time and that noise was gone.

Now, while I was much happier, there was still some background crunchy hiss that was still there but not nearly as bad. Being somewhat of an audiophile, I still wasn't 100% convinced with this thing. This time, I turned the backlight up to 100% brightness and bam...clear as a bell now and no noise whatsoever. Once in a while, you'll hear the hard drive spin up, but not enough to matter.

I ended up taking out my glove box, drilling a hole in the side of it and mounting the iPod in there. I couldn't see the use in going through the trouble of routing it to the center console since you have no control of the iPod once it's plugged in.

So...said and done, this thing is awesome. Sound quality is right on par, controls from the steering wheel and head unit work as advertised.

So if anyone is considering getting this, do it. Installation is a snap, the control box is small enough to sit right behind the A/C controls. Just remember the backlight issue!

Just thought I'd take a minute to let the community know my thoughts on this long awaited piece of hardware. If anyone has any questions about this, feel free to ask as the support forum over at Granite Embedded is pretty null for the most part as I've yet to have a question answered.
