Two points - coupons are only good for 90 days after they have been mailed. Also, there will be 'only' 22.5 million coupons available at first, available to anyone. After that, they'll release another 11.25 million available ONLY to folks that don't have cable. 33 million is a lot, but not infinite.
You can get up to two, but don't need to take them at the same time.
My recommendation - order one coupon now, and get yourself a box. Yes, you may have to spend $10 or $20 over the price of the coupon to get a box. Yes, it may not be the best gee-whiz box out there. But you've got a government-subsidized box. Later in the year if there is a better selection, apply for the other coupon. If there are coupons left, you can get another and get another box.
Here's something interesting - you DON'T need a coupon to buy a box. Just like TVs, VCRs, and iPods, if there is one with nicer features, you can pay for them. The purpose of the coupons is to help out folks that aren't on the cutting edge of technology.
Somebody on a fixed income watching an old dial TV can sure use the help. I'm not saying anything about you or your situation, but frankly, if folks are looking to get lots of fancy features on a converter box and add it to an AV system with a big screen TV, should the coupon matter?
