Both Graphite and Molybdenum Disulfide ("Molykote") are solid lubricants which derive their lubricity from their molecular structure. They are essentially flat plate molecules connected by very weak bonds between the flat surfaces, sorta like a stack of wet leaves. They slide upon themselves
very easily. They are mixed with a grease to make application easier.

As such, they will retain their lubricity long after the grease has boiled off or burned off in high temp applications.

Graphite and Molykote are both black/dark grey powders with no metallic bits. They are available, and are perfectly suited for brake pin service.
