Well, had you looked at my signature (1998 VFR800), stuck that in a Google search, you'd have gotten 123,000+ hits, let Yahoo change it to 1998 VFR 800, and you'd have gotten over one million. Follow its suggestion to Honda VFR, and you'd have over three million. Yes, you've been out of motorcycles for a while.
I shouldn't give you too much of a hard time, it's not that popular of a bike in the US.
In a nutshell, it started as Honda's ultimate high-performance bike modified for international racing, and morphed more into a sport-touring model along the lines of sportier BMW's.
During the 1990's, it pretty much owned the moto-journalists' "best sport-touring" tag, for what that's worth.
It's last racing experience was as the RC-45 (1994-1999) in FIM Superbike which Colin Edwards (a Texan, currently in the MotoGP circuit) rode.
