File a return.....
Simplified: The IRS uses your tax return filing status (single, married, etc.), your age, number of children, your income and other factors in order to determine the rebate amount you are entitled to.
1) When you file your return, have your refund check or payment due processed electronically against your checking or savings account. Doing this will reduce the delay in getting your rebate by weeks.
2) File electronically......up until Oct. 15th
3) After you have filed your return, wait 4-6 weeks before expecting your tax refund and rebate payment.....if you filed electronically AND requested a refund or payment due to be handled electronically. A tax refund or payment will precede the rebate.
If you decide to do everything through the mail, the weeks indicated will become months.
