Components are already replaced, as per below Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 08:59:07 In Reply to: Good idea to use TRW ball joints., SloopJohnB, Mon, 28 Apr 2008 08:08:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
These were Moog parts, also a high-quality brand; I do not use Scantech anything unless I have no choice, my time is worth the extra $5. Eeuroparts treats all the SAAB 9000 name-brand balljoints the same; what you get is the luck of the draw. When I replaced the dead balljoints, I mistakenly ordered only one, a new Moog part arrived. Ordered another one the next week and it was TRW. We'll see if there is any difference over time.
I opened up the boot of the old ones (pretty easy since my "pickle fork" removal tool destroys the boots) and they were bone dry - and the boots were completely intact before I started the replacement.
I'm more interested in the preventative maintenance aspects of greasing the joints. The suspension on my SAAB 9000 is fairly easy to swap parts on, but the suspension on my Audi A4 has 12 balljoints in the front (!) and two in the rear - and few of them are easy to replace, i.e. one must remove the shocks and upper shock mounts to replace the top front control arms (four of them). I'd like to do what I can to avoid this nightmare and spend less time under both cars.
