My 1990 Saab 900 broke down on Monday night, and I had it towed to a local mechanic. On Tuesday morning I called the shop to see how soon they could complete the repair. Initially they said they would not be able to work on the car for a week, so I asked if there was another shop who could handle the repair (I could not afford to be without a car for a week), their tune changed. They promised to complete the repair the next morning (Wednesday). I called Wednesday afternoon to check in, they had not even begun to work on the car but promised to work on the car the following day (Thursday/today). I called again this afternoon they said the car was ready, but they had only replaced two of the three parts they were supposed to replace. When I arrived at the shop they said the problem was not fixed because the third part they were supposed to have replaced had failed and the car was inoperable.
Am I responsible for the labor to go back in and replace the third part they were supposed to replace to begin with? Should I cut my losses and tow the car to another shop? Is the shop responsible for the cost of my rental car until the problem is fixed?
Thank You.
