Solar Cooling Fans

What with living in Texas and the temperatures involved most of the year, I have developed a solar cooling fan system to take some of the heat out of my '85 SPG when it is sitting parked in the sun. The solar panel is from Harbor Freight Tools (#41144 $39.99) and produces 13.5 vdc at 450mA. This is enough power to drive 2 4 1/2" 12 vdc 320mA fans. Each fan is rated at around 60 cfm air flow. The fan assembly is made from a piece of 1/8" model aircraft plywood and has 1/2" aluminum angle bracing that is pop riveted in place. The electrical connectors use are a pair of 5-way binding posts mounted between the fans at 3/4" on-center and a Pamona brand dual bannana plug attached to the cable coming from the solar panel. The fan assembly fits into the sun roof opening and is held there by the moving portion of the sun roof cover. My car has a tinted sun roof deflector which serves to make the fans invisible to the casual observer. The unit has so far been trouble-free and seems to reduce the internal temperature to a noticable degree. I normally will leave the 2 front windows open around 1 1/2" to allow for cooling air to enter the car.
