are one thing i would not mess with. it could suddenly get much worse, depending on if the car had occupants or not. my father had an amazing situation a few years back where he nudged someones bumper in stationary traffic. he offered to pay to have the car detailed to remove the black smudge, but the guy started getting greedy, asking for first $100, then $200 cash. he then went to his insurance anyway, claiming his infant son was in the car (??)and that both of them suffered whiplash, and tried to sue for $1.5 mil, i think. then insurance company settled for $25k out of court. would not have wanted to fight that without insurance involved, despite the increase in premiums he suffered as a result.

call the insurance company right now-you should have already done that, BTW, and had a police report also. you may already be too late...
