75% of my own work on cars for 35 years. Sometimes stuff just breaks, no matter how careful you are. I totally trust my indy, and he has warned me on a couple of occasions that a given job often results in having to replace certain part because of breakage during removal or whatever. I know how it works and I'm cool with this. I recall a repair or two where something broke and he put on a used part and either didn't charge me or told me about the work and part and basically split it with me.
If you trust the guy and give him that much biz, I'd talk with him about it, but also be prepared to just eat the extra. In the scheme of things it's not a lot of money and you know the car is being worked on properly. No offense, but the threat to go elsewhere routine lacks class, IMHO. Life is too short to sweat this kind of stuff.
