I know nothing about the alkylation process or which brands use that base stock (I just read Wikipedia). However, I have a 24" Husqvarna 570 which requires at least 90 octane, and the dealer confirmed it should be run only on 90+ octane except maybe in the coldest weather. It set me back a lot of money so I just trust the book and use good quality 90 or higher octane and Husqvarna branded oil. I LOVE that saw, and I'm afraid to experiment on it. :-)
