I agree with you on the stability discussion. I don't understand why this is still being argued over when Windows has been perfectly stable since Win2k.
I'm running XP SP2 at the moment on my desktop and XP SP3 on my laptop and can't even remember last time I had a blue screen. The laptop is on 24/7 running at 100% CPU use and it's only rebooted when I install stuff.
Vista is even more stable and secure (tested to be more secure than OSX). But of course if you install it on a computer with less than 2-3 GB RAM, it'll run like crap. Seeing as RAM is dirt cheap these days that's pretty much a non-issue. However it's gotten a bad rep because of PC manufacturers selling computers bundled with Vista without actually making sure the computers have enough RAM to run it well. Also lots of hardware and peripheral manufacturers took a long time to make new drivers, so in the beginning people had issues with their old stuff playing nice with Vista.
