ummm maybe I missed something, but if you are using fully syn Mobil One, you are good to go. Just change it at 5,000 marks, and keep all receipts for oil and filters you purchase.
I was just at a dealers and had a chance to speak to the mechs about the sludge thing...
They said:
people are using cheap oil (not saabnet guys!), and changing oil with a very long interval, and the 9-3 and 9-5 have looser rings to get better mileage but this allows more blowby hence is harder on the oil, also emissions contrains too, all harder on the oil, mentioned the change the pickup screen for larger diameter pickup screen and they said but the fluid goes straight to the oil pump and *then* the filter and the the pump is part of a larger (money) assembly... and it's hard on the pump too... they showed me the oil pickup on a car they were doing, under warranty, and it was coated with sludge and old standing crap oil. the screen almost completely blocked, I know why this car failed...
So, use fully syn oil, change at 5,000 because 1) it's safer and 2) it's easy to remember!
10 something to 30 or 40 something weight oil will be ok just about everywhere in the US. Oh, I routinely go to China Lake in the High Desert of Southern California, at 85 or more (sometimes *lots* more) and the viscosity is fine. It's next to Edwards AFB, Mojave where they keep all of the airliners that I bet never fly again, and is usually about two clicks cooler than Las Vegas. but after 110F what does it matter, really?
