I am going to buy the Subaru Legacy GT wagon that I have been leasing -- it has hardly any miles, and the buyout seems like a better deal than anything else I can get. Don't really want a huge car payment, so no new or leased. Here's the situation: I want to buy it now to secure my loan in this crazy market, the dealer is giving me a buyout figure that is higher than my risidual, plus the last two payments (lease is through Dec), plus the fee that you have to pay at the end to either turn the car in or buy it (can't remember what it's called). I asked the dealer why that figure was so high, and he said that is just what Subaru told them as the buyout figure. Then he also said the dealership would charge a $349 administrative fee--explained as having to keep documents for 7 years and dealer overhead, etc.
OK, so I kind of think I am being ripped off by the dealer. I am buying an extended factory warranty through the dealer, and I am letting them arrange the financing--I belive they earn commissions of both of those, am I right?
Do I have any other options in terms of buying the car from Subaru? Do I have to go through the dealer? Is it something I can bring to another dealer to try to get a better deal?
This is my first leased car, so I am not sure how it works. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated--Thanks!!!!
*** I have owned Saabs for years, and I wanted to buy one this year, but too much $$$.
