Good question. Narrowed brands down to Nikon & Cannon. Love the Cannon 40D, but wanted to spend less. Really love the Nikon D300, but again... $$$. Went to stores and handled several cameras. The D60 was going to be it, but next to the D80 the D60 feels less substantial. If I remember right I think the D80 may have a better sensor and that's a big deal. I think the D80's viewfinder is better also. And I like the top mounted LCD for settings. But the clincher was that I found one locally on craigs list. Met the guy, got good gut feel about the seller and the camera was purchased just one year ago. He was selling to move up to the D300. Got a screaming good deal on a camera that's practically new.
