The arabs bought into the depressed stock prices of our financial institutions and are screaming bloody murder if they are allowed to go under or incur hugh losses. They (arabs) won't buy future US debt instruments.
Note two things: 1. The plan requires the federal government to buy up and manage bad loans; as defaults occur how will the feds administer the vacant houses on repossesion? The citizens get the crap and the institution lose the overhead.
2. Warren Buffet is making key investments to provide liquidity, but he is getting preferred stock that is superior to existing common - which the taxpayers are not even getting for their contribution! The taxpayers will get something if and when the loans are worked out or sold.
This is a crime - at the congressional and senate level. Congress encouraged - at the penalty of law- subprime lending. Wall Street got greedy and borrowers who put nothing down are claiming they are victims if they are foreclosed. Why Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are not asked to stand down as Committee Chairs let alone resign as senators/congressmen is beyond me. In Japan, executives that fail commit suicide, here, they get rewarded. Keep voting the party line, you will get more of this in the future.
