I spent 3 weeks in Italy in May with the GF, but started in Rome, then Florence, then Venice... then we hired a car and drove across the Dolomites (Italian Alps), before heading to Lake Maggiore and finally Milan. I really wanted to drive the Stelvio pass, but that was closed still due to too much snow at the top. It is the 2nd highest paved pass (2,757metres) in Europe with 60 hairpin bends. It was voted the favourite road by the guys at Top Gear UK.

Other than that I really loved the Italian Alps... such amazing scenery.

The lakes area is also beautiful and not that far from Milan.

Definately go on the roof of the Milan Cathedral... An amazing monument!
