The actual selling prices for SAAB is close to what VWs sell for. If people buying a Passat realised that they could have a 9-5 for just a couple of thousand more, I'm sure they would be much more tempted. Or, they can probably have a 9-3 for less than a Jetta... This ridiculously optimistic MSRP setting has been killing SAAB for years. It's one thing to have a couple of thousand in there so you can make it appear the customer is getting a lot for their trade in, or getting a great deal, but when it's 30%, it drives away potential customers with sticker shock, and makes others feel, "these things must be crap, they can't sell them, so they practically have to give them away". For whatever reason, SAAB likes to think that they are a BMW/Audi competitor, and set list prices for their cars accordingly. The day they realize that they are not, and never will be, they will be far better off, sell more cars, and ultimately make more money. But, there's no sign of that reality sinking in any time soon.
