OT: Speed difference between USB 1.0 and USB 2.0? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 23 Nov 2008 12:34:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was loading all the software programs onto our new PC last night using the original CD's, and moved all the data files using a flash drive. (The guys at BestBuy could offer no help on using a cross-over ethernet cable to do this task, plus the cable was $30 and I already owned the flash drive.)
I took 40 minutes to load ~1 Gig of data onto the flash drive from the old computer thru a USB 1.0 port, but only 1 minute to load the data from the flash drive into the new machine thru a USB 2.0 port! Is the speed difference really 40:1?
The old machine has an Athalon 1700 processor and 133 ATA Hard-drive which are older technology, but aren't exactly snail's pace devices either. I was shocked at the time difference.
