is this a surprise? I like to think Saab would likely be sold, but with the global economy the way it is, it could be dicey. I agree that Pontiac seems like the next logical candidate for shut down, but why keep Buick, too? And Hummer may be on the block but there's a new H3 pickup that's advertised a lot. Go figure.
At the same time, I'm not sure how quickly a brand can actually be shut down. It took at least 3 years with Olds and about the same when Chrysler axed Plymouth. It's easy to kill production, but dealer franchise agreements can't just be turned off. Plus, there are legal and contractural obligations regarding warranties and parts even when a brand is discontinued.
But if Saab were to be sold, who would be the best candidates to buy it?
Ghosn at Nissan/Renault has already said he's not interested. So how about Subarau? Hyundai? Or maybe VW (in it's quest to own Europe)? I bet someone could buy it cheap to get it off GM's table.
