The fact that oil prices shot up so quickly and then fell so quickly is proof that the auto industry and the oil companies were not part of a conspiracy. Has anybody been able to explain the sudden changes in the price of oil? I think it has to be speculation. The supply/demand relationship didn't change quickly enough in either direction to justify such drastic changes.
If the auto industry was involved, they wouldn't have let the drastic changes in the price of oil take place or they would have been told about it in advance to adjust product plans. I do agree that the oil companies should help though. Loans to the Detroit 3 would be a drop in the bucket compared to the profits they've recently gotten.
