This last year I upgraded from a 20+ year old 2-channel amp to surround sound receiver and so was also looking for new speakers. I am more interested in sound quality and "bang for the buck" than in certain brands or typical reviews (hmmm....maybe that is why I also own a Saab and frequent this board :-). I was willing to spend some money, since speakers have the most to do with how the system sounds, but didn't want to invest a fortune.
I ended up seeing several positive mentions of Era speakers from Signal Path International. After reading a number of very positive reviews for their D4 and D5 speakers, I ended up getting the D5 LCR for the center channel and the D5 satellites for the front left and right channels. I would have also got them for the rear surrounds, but since this was going into a very open floorplan area, I had to get in-ceiling mounted speakers for the rears. Depending on your room size, D4s may be fine instead of D5s. You could try using the the D4 or D5 LCR with your Cerwin Vegas across the front and D4s as your rear surrounds and see if you like that mix. If you don't feel they match well, you could then sell the CWs and replace them with a full set.
Era speakers are not sold over the web, but through independent dealers. It is really worth hearing these babies in person. There is a discussion forum on Era speakers at avsforum.com and the Signal Path International owners even frequent the forum from time to time. You might get some other suggestions there.
Good luck! Good speakers really make it a treat to watch movies and listen to music.
