representative of the model you'll get. I've expected a Jetta/Golf/Peugeot something or other and wound up with Euro-market Nissans as well as Skodas and Seats. The Seat I got in Germany last year was gas engined and geared short so that it was almost redlined at 160 kph. Not great on the long run down the A5 and A3 from Dusseldorf to Switzerland.
And do learn about traffic laws ahead of time and what signs mean. You'll be in France, Netherlands and Belgium and the fastest speed allowed is 130 kph (about 80 mph). The police WILL ticket for 5 over and traffic cams are everywhere, on the highways as well as the cities. I got nailed for doing 5 kph over the limit on the outskirts of Zurich on a rainy Sunday headed for the airport. The flash of the cam tipped me off. A few weeks later the ticket from the Stadts Polizei shows up in the mail. You gotta pay it or it can prevent you from renting in Europe again, as the rental companies share info on that stuff. My fine was about 40 euros, about $65 at the time.
If you are really just interested in the cities and don't plan stopping between them, consider using the train instead. The TGV line that runs from Brussels to Paris is fast (180 mph+) and very nice. In Belgium you might want to go to Brugges, a nice old medieval town. Also in Belgium, be sure to find some Kwak beer. Expensive but awesome.
And get a spare ATM card. If a machine over there eats your card (as happened to a colleague a couple years back) you are SOL if you're depending on the card for cash.
