From a 22 year old perspective in his senior year at a good school, I have some things to say.
The U.S. economy relies heavily on consumerism. Since, we make more money than many other people in the world, we can't compete in the manufacturing sector. Hence, why everything is shipped from China to the United States.
At the same time, China is starting to take natural resources from Africa while trying to improve the well-being of the people there. Within 50 years China will hit mass consumption and start to have everything manufactured in Africa. Within the next 150 to 200 years, the world will be at mass consumption. Then it will just be a matter of natural resources and time.
The U.S. government is bankrupt. The only thing keeping it afloat is the fact that China holds so many of our treasuries. Citibank and Bank of America will be nationalized. This economy runs on debt and its finally nipping us in the butt. Within 10 to 15 years this country will be running in a socialist style of capitalism. Everything that is happening now points to it. Just is not going to be number one anymore. Sorry to say.
Two things that could save the U.S. is protectionism and the ability to stay out of war for a period of 20 years. That's all I have to say about that. It's such a disappointment.
