Most sources I've shcecked say arms length plus is about right (20-25"). I could try moving it back another 10" or so. I'm using a ViewSonic.
If I move it back, then the drop angle from level line of sight to the top of the monitor diminishes. That seems to be bad, which is why I wondered about lowering the monitor below the desk surface.
Do you find the laptop, monitor, or editing bay easiest on your eyes? Why would the monitor need to be further away than the laptop screen?
