1-modern digital behind the ear is, by consensus aof all I've spoken with, the best performer, but the larger in the ear ones do quite well. For restaurant use, get aids that have front rear speakers where the rears can be cranked down with a button. Sit with your back to the crowd, you'll hear well.
2- You will save perhaps $1000's at Costco over the small audiologists. You will also save on repairs, as Costco takes care of a lot of things that others will charge for, or charges less. I've been unimpressed by Interton, btw.
3-All audios are required to give you a specified trial period with the option of a refund. Most charge a couple of hundred as a service fee when you do return it, Costco does not.
3. If you have a medical center audiology facility near you that does NOT sell aids, have them do a full set of tests and an audiogram, and get their recommendation. Then go to Costco with that.
4-Costco does not charge for a volume control (to me very important), telecoil, etc. Others add on for these.
5- there a couple of blogs for this. i was considering the Siemens blue tooth set up, but read some things saying the quality was crappy. I often don't wear the aid in the car, don't need it. Unless you are having trouble with standard hands free, don't get blue tooth h-aid for that (do wear it as much as possible for your wife or companion's benefit, they will like you better.
The markup at full retail is 3-1, just like jewelry.
At home, for the TV, run cables from "audio out" (not the headphone jack which mutes the whole set. Use one with the other end female for the headphones. If that does not work (not loud enough), get a small headphone amp from headphone.com and put that in line with the cable. $200 well spent, great sound. Use serious headphones.
